CASE STUDY

VOTH x LEAR is a conceptual fashion project exploring sustainability, material innovation, and storytelling through experimental design. The case study examines how imagery, storytelling, and designs were used to frame mycelium-inspired concepts as a recognizable element that expressed beauty, elegance, connection, and sensory connection.

CHALLENGE

Mushroom imagery felt predictable, filtered through a psychedelic or wellness lens, and almost never approached through the language of fashion or editorial storytelling. The challenge was to reposition it in a space where neither of those visual lanes defined the narrative.

The brand placed mushrooms within a visual space that felt sensual and designed, treating mycelium as a material of texture, connection, and mood. Soft highlights, color grading, and set design in editorial campaigns helped reinforce the material’s surface quality and feeling.

The piece moved from controlled imagery to the red carpet. The Bowie Bag was later worn at the Grammy Awards, placing the work within a live, high-profile fashion setting.

From grounded ecology to sensory expression.

Energy didn’t need to be removed;
it needed to be designed.
